Seniors:
You may have applied early decision or early action to your top choice college, and, if you did, you will likely learn of the decision in the next week or so. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you. As you wait, you can take heart in the fact that you presented yourself very well in your application.
I hope everyone gets into their top choice school, but that’s probably not going to happen. If you get good news, celebrate and cheer and savor the fact that your college admissions journey is (mostly) over, but also be sensitive to the fact that not all of your classmates will hear good news. You will also need to follow the instructions you receive from the admissions office and withdraw any applications you made to other colleges.
If you are deferred or denied admission to your first choice school, remember that there are many more colleges and universities that are right for you, and the hard part was narrowing down your list. For months now, you’ve had a list of excellent schools to consider. Take a fresh look at these colleges, revisit some campuses and meet with your counselor to make sure you’re ready for schools with January deadlines. Here are some tips on what to do (and not do) if you are deferred. Above all, don’t panic: you have many more options to consider.
Sincerely,
Mr. Spear
