Personal interviews are not a required part of the admission process at Connecticut College, but they’re an excellent opportunity to add personal depth to your application.
The interview is nothing to be intimidated by; just think of it as a conversation about your interests and involvements.
Here is a list of interviewing tips that our senior Admission Fellows (our student interviewers) created based on their experiences interviewing prospective students just like you.
We hope you find the tips below helpful, and we encourage you to schedule an on-campus interview before you visit our beautiful campus!
- Be yourself. The goal of the interview is to get to know you.
- Be on time. Plan on arriving 10 to 15 minutes early.
- Be prepared to engage in conversation for about a half hour.
- Wear appropriate clothing.
- Be positive. Avoid saying “I hate …”
- Be ready to discuss your interests with enthusiasm.
- Ask informed questions.
- Research the school before arriving.
- Maintain eye contact with your interviewer.
- Avoid one-word answers. Be prepared to elaborate.
- It is ok to say “I don’t know.” It is better to be honest than to make anything up.
- Do not answer in the way you feel the interviewer “wants.” Again, be yourself.
- Don’t be nervous. It’s just a conversation. And remember: it’s all about YOU.
