This piece was from a few years ago, but it’s the same this year and getting worse every year: admission to the most prestigious colleges and universities is more and more competitive. 31,000 applications for 1,500 spots at Brown this year? That’s insane. Ivies and their ilk are placing record numbers on the wait list because so many applicants are too darn impressive to deny admission outright.
