Some students send as many as 20 applications (which is too many), while others send only one (probably too few). To ensure a successful match, apply to a diverse group of schools and be realistic about the strength of your application. Read more.
Here are a few more things to consider:
- Apply only to colleges you could see yourself attending. Don’t waste your time, your counselor’s time and the time of the admissions officer who will read your application if you know you won’t attend under any circumstances.
- Most students who apply to 10 or more colleges do so because they haven’t done their homework and visited and researched schools. Don’t put off that important work until after you get accepted because you’ll wind up with 10 or more acceptances and only 30 days to make your decision.
